The Problem

While seeking and applying for jobs, Job seekers profiles do not fully line up with their desired roles or showcase their potential. They have a hard time highlighting their skills, their values and next step in career through their profile. Nuleep needed a way to incorporate this in their existing user profile.

Solution we came up with

Our team, we redesigned and created two views of profile. One which can help job seekers to build their profile and one view would be public. Our solution catered to highlighting their next step in career, skills they have, and values which they would like to be aligned with in their profile.

Our Process

We as a team wanted to understand the perspectives of job seekers and started the user centered design process. We divided our timeline in Trello to match our deliverables and also keep users in mind first.

 02 | Research

Competitive Analysis

We conducted a Competitive Analysis of LinkedIn, Handshake, Zip Recruiter and many others and analyzed some features could be an asset to incorporate as well as room for improvement.

  • Referrals, public/private profile view, pronouns, desired location, and career growth were all features that we wanted to incorporate into our profile.

Objective

Nuleep wanted Gen Z’s job applicants to engage in their platform. With Nuleep’s target audience, we recruited eight Gen Z’s who recently went through job search and got a new job. The objective was to understand Gen Z’s needs and pain points and how can Nuleep platform help incorporate.

Affinity Mapping Trends

We created an affinity map from user interviews insights and grouped them into trends.

Major insights:

03 | Define

Meet the Users

Analyzing our research findings, We developed user personas to capture two distinct user groups.

Our Primary Persona

Andy has been working at his first job for a couple of years and is looking for companies with better growth opportunities. He recently moved to a new city and is relying on online platform for job hunt. Andy has some non-negotiable such as: salary and benefits, strong support from the employer, work/life balance, flexibility, and location.

Our Secondary Persona

Jane is part of the Gen z group who just graduated school and is going into the workforce for the first time. The job isn’t exactly lined up with her interests but she is happy to have gotten her foot in the door. After Jane gets enough experience at her current job she wants to move to a company more aligned with her values such as diversity and inclusion.

04 | Ideate

User Journey Map

I created the journey map to analyze Andy’s journey in gaining his next ideal opportunity.

Design Studio

After sketching our ideas individually, we brainstormed as a team addressing the needs and pain points of Andy. Through that process, we discovered similarity in hierarchy and tags

 Wireframes

The wireframes helped depict Andy's flow for creating a strong professional profile to the overview of Andy’s profile. Segregation of topics in Tabs allow users to fill information quickly and feel less overwhelmed with length and content of information to complete.

04 | Test & Iteration

Usability test

My team and I recruited 5 participants for the usability testing.
Main Goal : to understand users overall experience as they navigated through the prototype, also to analyze whether users understand the hierarchy of the page.

 Iteration

From the usability test insights gained, we iterated and implemented changes on the designs.

 05 | Design & High Fidelity Prototype

Design System

We designed our mockups with the template and UI Kit provided by Nuleep. Also, used tailwindui as reference mentioned by Nuleep to keep brand consistency and represent the company’s mood and tone.

 High Fidelity Prototype

Incorporating the insights from Usability, we refined the designs into High fidelity Mockup and Prototype. It was important to keep existing brand and UI for the Nuleep. We created the Mobile and Web responsive version for the overview of profile.

 06 | Final Takeaways

This project gave an industry experience working with a startup company. The scope of the project was a big reflection to understand with technological constraints and business constraints with Nuleep. This project was also reflective with target audience as job seekers. The learning with this project was immense with iterations and feedback received from stakeholders and also keeping the Nuleep’s mission and users in mind.

Our work is not done yet,

Next steps considered would be

  • Create onboarding process from signup to overview.

  • Incorporate Drop down menus, more skills options that are industry specific and easy bubble option to choose from with keeping Gen Z’s in mind.

  • Create job board where users can track their job searching process . Have an option to check application status, keep track of interview schedule and phase, save jobs of interest
